Meet Steve

Steve McGilvray is a devoted husband, father, and lifelong public servant who has spent more than three decades protecting families and serving the people of Alamance County. His career has been guided by the belief that strong families and safe communities are the foundation of a thriving county.
After moving to North Carolina in 1990, Steve chose Alamance County as the place to raise his children. Like many local parents, he understands the importance of safe neighborhoods, responsible government, and a justice system that works fairly for everyone.
Steve earned an Associate’s Degree in Applied Sciences from Alamance Community College, completed the Administrative Management Program at North Carolina State University, and holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Administration of Justice from Western Carolina University. His education and experience reflect a lifelong commitment to public safety and effective leadership.
A retired law enforcement veteran, Steve dedicated more than 30 years to serving and protecting the citizens of Alamance County, rising to the rank of Captain. Throughout his career, he built a reputation for fair leadership, ethical decision-making, and accountability. Steve believes these values are essential to maintaining public trust and community safety. Steve has also served as Master Mason for Tabasco Masonic Lodge #271 for more than 10 years, demonstrating a long-standing commitment to service, leadership, and community involvement.
Today, Steve continues his service as a Judicial Official in Alamance County, where he has served for more than three years. His firsthand experience gives him a practical understanding of how the court system impacts victims, families, and the broader community.
As a cancer survivor, Steve brings resilience, compassion, and perspective to his work. He understands that behind every case are real people and families who deserve respect, fairness, and a court system that operates efficiently and responsibly.
